The Cancer Registry of Greater California (CRGC) is actively engaged in research studies and a full range of activities that support the use and dissemination of cancer registry data. In addition to CRGC studies, the CRGC enables access to cancer registry data from within its catchment area for bona fide researchers and prepares data for use in research, including data linkage, patient-contact studies, and analyses. For more information, select the Data Access and Disclosure tab.
Our Publications and Fact Sheets illustrate a sample of our research interests and our efforts to convey the findings of research using cancer registry data to our constituents in California’s diverse communities.
Available Cancer Data
The CRGC offers cancer researchers robust population-based cancer data about cases that have occurred since 1988 within the regions it serves (i.e., 48 out of 58 counties in California, excluding Los Angeles and the Greater Bay Area counties). Inclusion of the most recent cases is limited only by the speed of cancer reporting, which is increasingly expedited by advances in cancer reporting technologies and processes. De-identified, aggregated data sets contain extensive information on cancer diagnosis, treatment, and survivorship for individual cases in California. Confidential cancer information (i.e., identified cancer cases) is available for research through our Data Access and Disclosure program.
Engage CRGC in Your Research
The CRGC routinely partners with individuals and research institutions to advance cancer research. Critical research studies that use CRGC data facilitate informed decision-making about cancer prevention, care, treatment options, and policy.
If your study would benefit from cancer registry data and/or the expertise to interpret, analyze, or link these data with other data sources for a fuller understanding of cancer data, or to explore hypotheses about cancer incidence, contact our research team via crgc-data@crgc-cancer.org or (916) 779-0300. For examples of the types of that can be performed using registry data, see CRGC Research Studies.
Community Cancer Concerns
The CRGC monitors the incidence of cancer in its service regions and responds to concerns brought forward by members of the public who may become concerned about cancer in a particular place or setting, usually prompted by an apparent high level of incidence. CRGC research staff review relevant registry data and perform probability analyses in response to these concerns and can use cancer registry data to determine whether there is a higher-than-expected incidence of cancer for a particular locale.
If you have questions or concerns about cancer incidence, please email cancerinfo@crgc-cancer.org. More information about community cancer concerns can be found on the California Cancer Registry website.
